As the lead designer on Arthur for PBS Kids, I had many opportunities to create whimsical illustrations for a wide variety of games and activities.

Collective Arts Brewing reached out to me to imagine artwork for a new series of CBG mocktail beverages they are launching, and it was a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, a scheduling conflict led this project to just be speculative for me, but I’m thrilled with the unique visual “characters” I came up with for the 4 flavors.

I was asked to create an identity for Ombic Sound Recording Studio in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The multi-hat wearing owner, operator, and recording engineer was looking for branding that felt exciting, bold, fresh, wild, unique, and colorful—the antithesis of many cold and muted looks of competing recording studio identities.

An original illustration print I made for Aeronaut Brewery in Somerville, MA to celebrate a a beer called Cerisett.

“ Cerisettis a delicious Grisette conditioned on tart cherries that had been used in a previous bottle release. Second use of fruit is very common amongst brewers, a great way to get full extraction from fruit.

After its regular fermentation schedule as a production beer, we transferred a portion of the finished beer into the recently emptied tank that hosted Rosy Amalgamation (the previous release). Post re-fermentation on Midwest tart cherries in Stainless Steel for 9 months, this beer continued to mature for several months.

The mixed culture used to develop Ceriseete, boasts a tart foundation, elevating this beer, making it super complex with citrus notes from the hops, with notes of cherry and cinnamon. Light in body, dry with hints of pleasant green grape, white peach and stone fruit, all contribute to the duality of this brew. This farmhouse style ale pours a delicate pale gold, with a subtle haze and crisp foam head. “

I hand drew the logo and all of the plant elements to create a colorful and unique system which can be seen in the packaging as well as the Biota website.

I created a beer label for Aeronaut Brewery in Somerville, MA for their IPA, ‘Inverted Circus’. The beer is described as “an NEIPA (New England India Pale Ale) that we are calling 'Inverted Circus'. It clocks in at 6.0% ABV, pours a pale yellow, with a modest haze, and generous white head. It's brewed with American pilsner malt, white wheat and flaked oats, making for a silky smooth mouthfeel. The hop bill for this brew includes Strata, Citra, and El Dorado hops, bringing big fruit flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, mango and passionfruit to the table. Subtle hints of stone fruit and white peach add to the palate, while the highly drinkable beer finishes slightly dry and fairly medium-bodied. “

I wanted to bring a fun and exciting world to the package with characters and whimsical outer space theme. The only restriction I put on myself was “no animals” as I don’t believe they belong in the circus.

A poster I designed for the 30th anniversary of David Lynch’s legendary film.

Originally pitched as a mural project, I conceived of 2 large, interconnecting quadriptychs to transform the 3rd floor elevator bays at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design Tower Building.

Through vivid colors and abstract shapes, visitors are welcomed into a psychedelic and wild landscape breaking up the otherwise industrial flavor of the building.

A fun illustration project I worked on with Fred & Co studio, one of my favorite collaborators to create stickers for Zero Acre Farms.

Fred talks about their side of the project best: “Zero Acre Farms is on a mission to give the world an oil change. Their team creates and sells cooking oil that is made in a more sustainable and healthier way than seed oils. We partnered with them at a pivotal moment: directly after going through a full brand build and right before they officially launched their product.

We were brought in to design their first physical customer-facing interaction, conceptualizing and designing the unboxing experience for their first shipment of bottled cooking oil. From curating what items went into the box to the actual box design itself, we designed custom merchandise and packaging that made sure their brand put its best foot forward.”

I designed 2 posters for SubPop Records recording artist Guerilla Toss for their Spring 2022 tour. The two distinct designs for the Boston and Philadelphia shows, respectively, match the verve and psychedelic expression that encapsulates what the band is all about.

Diggers Cooperative is a Maine-based start-up transforming compost into soil for local farmers. I created a logo that sits at the confluence of community focus and environmental sustainability.

Yet another delightful collaboration with the Midwest’s finest design studio, Fred & Co. This time, I created a poster and some other materials for a party event to welcome new friends and associates to the studio space.

A visual tribute to one of the greatest bands to ever do it. The image is based on a famous rock and roll photo taken of Fugazi at a DIY show in Philadelphia.

An unused editorial illustration about enjoying nature in the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I was tasked with designing two Skill Planning work books from scratch, creating logical and clear styles throughout each.

Re-design for the Massachusetts State Flag (which currently contains controversial colonial imagery and symbology). The 19 plant leaves represent the 19 people hanged during the Salem Witch Trials.

I was commissioned to do this piece for the Attleboro Council on Human Rights to honor Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. The title ‘Spyurk’ is the Armenian word for diaspora, which the imagery symbolically expresses.

I created the illustrations and animations for Raising A Reader of Massachusetts, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower families through education and dialogic reading programs.

Basketball logo for an imaginary mythologically inspired team.

I created the illustrations for this animation to support the research work around industry knowledge and it’s impact on economic growth.

In a paper published this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a team led by César A. Hidalgo, director of the Collective Learning Group in the MIT Media Lab, studied the effects of occupation-specific, industry-specific, and location-specific knowledge on the success of pioneer firms. These are firms operating in an industry that has not previously been present in a region.

They found these pioneering firms were significantly more likely to survive and grow when their first hires were people with experience in the same or a related industry, rather than those who had experience carrying out the same type of job.

Funk Du Jour is a lifestyle brand celebrating the love of Funk and Nu Disco with a bit of French flair and a groovy illustrative aesthetic. It is a collaboration between Nick Riemer who grew up in Paris, France and myself as we aim to bring an ever evolving expression of the beautiful, freaky and subversive world of Funk and DJ culture based on our personal design styles.
